Spoke with Dr Corvera today and this is what we learned:
Surgery is still cancelled for tomorrow, July 20th. The biopsy will be Monday, July 24th.
1. The growth of Dennis's liver looks great!
2. The lesion on the left lobe could be an abscess. If that is what it is, then Dennis will still be eligible for surgery. With the stents in the bile duct, there is a chance that's what it is. The surgeon has seen this happen before.
3. If the pathology comes back inconclusive, they will do surgery, but, cut out that spot first and look at it under a microscope. If it looks cancerous, he will stop surgery. If it doesn't look cancerous, he will continue the surgery.
4, If pathology comes back positive for cancer, then the cancer is in the blood stream, and gone to other parts of his body and no surgery will be performed.
He would be referred back to oncology to see if there are options.
5. The pathology can take 7-14 days to come back, depending on if they end up sending it out of UCSF to be looked at.
Pray for an abscess, strength with courage for all of us to get through this.
'Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. the Lord is my strength and my shield: in him my heart trusts, and I am helped: my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.' Psalm 28:6-7
Love to all who are sharing this journey with us,
Dennis and Sharon
