Biopsy and Pathology Results

Dennis had his liver biopsy on Monday, July 24th up at UCSF. We stayed Sunday and Monday night with our friend, Naomi. She is a gracious host with a lovely home. It was nice not to have to drive up and back in one day. (It can be 3 1/2-4 hours each way, depending on traffic)

We arrived at UCSF at 10:30 am and they promptly took Dennis to his room. He left for his procedure at 11: 30 and I went to and got something to eat at the cafeteria. When I got back to his room, 50 minutes later, Dennis was already back from the procedure. The Interventional Radiologist was able to see the lesion with an ultra sound which speeded up the process of the biopsy. If they were unable to view the lesion with an ultra sound, they would have had to use a CT scan and that would've taken much longer. Dennis had to stay another 4 hours for observation after the procedure. Again, we were blessed that there were no complications and we left the hospital about 4 pm.

Fast forward to Friday, July 28th the results of the biopsy was in his portal. After reading the results, we messaged Dr Corvera's office to get a confirmation of what we were reading. About 30 minutes later, the nurse practioner, Melissa called and confirmed that we read the results correctly, which was positive for cancer. It came back with the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma. Melissa had spoken with Dr Corvera before calling us and he strongly recommended calling Dr Spillane, the oncologist in San Luis Obispo and getting an appointment. After we hung up with Melissa, we immediately called Dr Spillane's office and got an appointment this Wednesday, Aug 2nd. We will see what Dr Spillane has to say about any treatment options and Dennis will make a decision on what he would like to do.

We appreciate everyone's patience in the delay of this post. This was heavy news that we needed to process and share with our children and immediate family, first.

Please continue the prayers for Dennis and our family.  I will update the blog after we speak with Dr Spillane.

Blessings,

Sharon and Dennis
