Hi All,
Dennis was feeling well at the end of last week, so we decided to go on a hike. He wanted to hike on Harmony Headlands trail. It's a pretty easy trail. We got there early about 8 am and there wasn't anyone else parked in the parking area. We headed off and I saw some thistles in bloom. I went to show Dennis and there was a grass snake on one of the thistles. He was pretty cute once I got over the element of surprise. We had a nice hike and listened to the meadow larks and red-winged black birds singing their morning songs. When we got to the ocean, we sat on a bench and just enjoyed the view and the fresh air.
After we got home later that day, Dennis started not feeling well. We took his temp and he was running a low grade fever. By Sunday, his fever was gone, but, he was feeling pretty crummy. His fever crept back up Sunday evening and by Monday it had risen to 102. We called the oncologists office because we were concerned that he could have an infection around the stents. An antibiotic was called in and we were advised to go to the doctors appointment the next day, prior to the chemo treatment.
His fever broke in the middle of the night and we met the the PA at the doctor's office. He explained that spiking fevers was very typical of having cancer and didn't mean that he had an infection. So, Dennis went ahead and had his first treatment.
For the first 36 hours after the treatment, Dennis felt the best he has felt in the last couple of months. That was short lived though. He started running a low grade fever again today. Now that he has had chemo, we do have to call the doctor's office if his fever reaches 100.4.
Dennis will have chemo again next Tuesday, June 13th. We'll meet with Dr Spillane the oncologist at this appointment. After a couple of weeks off, Dennis will start another round of chemo on July 3rd. That way he'll have 2 rounds before his surgery.
We had some great news that David, Bailey and Lincoln will be coming out to visit at the end of the month. It will be so nice to meet our new grandson! We're really looking forward to that!!!
Here are a few pictures of our hike! Hugs, Dennis and Sharon
